Grand Casino Arena, Minnesota Wild and SeatGeek Launch First-Ever Fan-Created Exterior Mural Project
Grand Casino Arena, in partnership with the Minnesota Wild and SeatGeek, today announced an open call for artists to design the venue's first-ever fan-created exterior mural, a landmark project that will transform the highly visible Gate 3 entrance into a celebration of Minnesota sports, entertainment, culture, and community.
The selected artist or artist team will create an original large-scale mural to be installed on the exterior brick wall overlooking the Rice Park corridor and downtown Saint Paul. The project represents a new chapter for Grand Casino Arena, which has welcomed millions of fans through its doors over the past quarter century but has never before featured a exterior mural created through a public artist submission process.
"This project is about more than creating a mural, it's about creating a shared expression of what this venue means to Minnesota," said Kelly McGrath, Vice President and General Manager for Grand Casino Arena. "For the first time, we're inviting artists from across Saint Paul, the Twin Cities, and the entire state to help tell that story. Every game, concert, comedy show, and community event brings people together here, and we're excited to see how artists capture that energy and connection."
Located at the busy intersection of West 7th Street and downtown Saint Paul, Gate 3 serves as one of the Arena's most visible entrances and a key landmark for fans, visitors, workers, and residents moving through the city. The completed mural will become a visual centerpiece for one of Minnesota's most iconic entertainment destinations.
The project is being presented in partnership with SeatGeek, the Arena's Official Ticketing Partner, whose commitment to connecting fans with unforgettable live experiences helped inspire the initiative.
"SeatGeek believes that live events create some of life's most memorable moments," said Tim Groth, Senior Partnership Success Manager for the Minnesota Wild. "This mural will celebrate those experiences while giving artists an opportunity to leave a lasting mark on a venue that plays such an important role in our community. We're excited to see the creativity and perspectives that emerge from artists across Minnesota."
The selected design should celebrate Minnesota culture while showcasing Grand Casino Arena as a destination for sports, live music, entertainment, and shared experiences. Artists are encouraged to think broadly and creatively about what gathering, fandom, community pride, and live events mean to Minnesotans.
Grand Casino Arena is seeking submissions from individual artists, muralists, illustrators, designers, collectives, students, educators, and community-based creative organizations. Both emerging and established artists are encouraged to apply.
The selected artist will receive $10,000 in compensation, with fabrication and installation costs covered separately by Grand Casino Arena and the Minnesota Wild.
Applications are now open and will be accepted through October 23, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.
Project details, eligibility requirements, and submission materials can be found by visiting the SeatGeek Gate 3 Submission Site.
Grand Casino Arena, the Minnesota Wild, and SeatGeek look forward to reviewing submissions that reflect the creativity, passion, and diverse perspectives that make Minnesota's arts and culture community unique.
